Why do some tattoo artists use plastic wrap to bandage, and others use paper towels?
I have a few tattoos and some have used plastic wrap to bandage, and others have used paper towels. Is one better than the other? What is the difference, or is there any, in heal time?
*not necessarily paper towels, but a bandage like it, not sure the technical term.
Like people said, it’s the need to balance covering the tattoo and keeping it protected with letting it get some air and not sitting in a pool of blood, ink, and lymph. I read an article once where a tattoo artist swore by bandages that are basically like those pads under packaged raw meat. A gauze pad with a plastic mesh over it, that won’t stick or stifle but will still absorb goo and protect the tattoo.
I’ve had both plastic wrap and a sort of slick gauze, and I’ve never really noticed a difference. The way fluid pools at the bottom of the plastic for awhile is really gross though.
