Is it possible for my finger nail to fall off?
About 4 days ago, i slammed my finger in a car door, and today when i was replacing the bandage ( therr was a cut too) i saw that a little spot on my fingernail, about 1.5 mm wide, had turned a purplish under the nail. I cant really tell if its blood under the nail or if its the nail itself that’s changing color, but the rest of the nail is completely healthy. Is it possible that the whole nail will fall off?
If it’s a large enough area of your fingernail it’s probably coming off, but I’m not sure how wide 1.5mm is nor what percentage of your fingernail 1.5mm is. Usually a way to relieve the pressure if there’s a lot of pain is to take a hot needle and burn a hole through the nail so it can bleed through. I don’t recommend doing that yourself.
Anyway, the nail doesn’t just randomly fall off, it’s a very slow process. A new nail basically grows and pushes out the broken one.
