The Truth About Greg Reyes
The ‘travesty’ of the Greg Reyes court case is just that and if common sense and logic prevailed the case would have been dropped after the highest appeal court in the State of California found the prosecution lied, deliberately lied, and mislead the jury in the first trial intentionally! That finding should be a ‘red flag ‘warning to every responsible citizen in our state! Subsequently the presiding justice in a similar case (Broadcom) in another part of the state concluded his findings in similar fashion throwing that case out of court because of ‘prosecutorial misconduct (lying)’! That leaves me, along with many others, to recognize that prosecutors deliberately lie in court proceedings and that fact should be of immense concern to the citizenry as a whole! They (prosecutors) do so because they have families to provide for and know the system has been so politicized their advancement possibilities depend on the number of successful prosecutions, not the professionalism or the actual facts of a case!
During my growing up years I was led to believe prosecutors, and judges because they “always tell the truth”. In fact, that is not the case. Once DNA came upon the scene, as a society we learned first hand of the scores of citizens who have served excessive time in our prisons because of incorrect, ‘doctored’ evidence presented to juries in the legal process by prosecutors. Without question that fact has been confirmed by the significant number of cases being overturned each week as a result of convincing DNA evidence! Despite some flaws in procedures, corporations and business concerns do not tolerate in their operations those who cheat, lie, or steal. But unfortunately those basic principles do not apparently apply to the present day court system. The Greg Reyes case is a classic example of what I write. As stated, the prosecutor in the Reyes case lied, intentionally lied, and mislead the jury so as to obtain a conviction! There is no evidence of which I am aware indicating that the lead prosecutor was reprimanded, suspended without pay, or fined, in any way whatsoever. In fact, he has been rewarded ‘by the system’ and will be the prosecutor in the re-trial of Greg scheduled to commence on February 22!
During my professional years I served for close to twenty five years as the CEO of a major educational association. I must admit that my limited personal time available during those years was used to be a good husband and father to our children. However, I had an older brother who was an attorney who served for many, many years as CEO of the “Public Defenders” in a large, significant state. Whenever the opportunity presented itself he would point out to me that the legal system in our country was out of ‘whack’ and had reached the stage where no one should routinely believe prosecutors when it came to ‘truth telling’! The same principle also applies often times to witnesses for the prosecution who, even though they are under oath, are guided by prosecutors as to what they can and must state in their testimony! He alleged that witnesses were ‘schooled’ as to what they were to say or faced the possibility of being charged personally in the case under consideration! In retrospect I wish had taken the time then to follow up on his allegations that have proved to be so true! In recent weeks in Santa Clara County the District Attorney” has taken action to ‘blackball’ a judge who she feels is not sympathetic enough to prosecutors in demanding their testimonies be accurate and truthful! Prosecutors, not a well qualified and experienced judge, are the problem our society must encounter and resolve!
Friends and family of Greg know that he is not an outgoing gregarious guy in any of his dealings with people. Much of his success professionally can be traced to his determination to surround himself with knowledgeable, committed, hard working colleagues! The record confirms that as a CEO he charted the course for the direction of the companies he served and then let the staff professionals carry on and achieve established goals. He truly is a fabulous guy, a very loving father and husband and one who is always open to helping his family achieve personal goals and desires. He lets his kids know what he expects of each of them , provides whatever is necessary to achieve success, informs them there are consequences to be paid if they ‘screw up” and he follows thru on everything! The last four years have been horrible for them as a family with an unjust, lying court system the root cause of the problems. It is time for this tragedy to end forthwith and allow this superb family to move on to bigger and better accomplishments!
