what kind of clothes should a pear shape wear?
I’m 17 and have a pear shaped figure and everyone my age wears skinny jeans and mini dresses and mini skirts and these clothes just don’t flatter me. All I can find in the shops are clothes that suit women with skinny legs which I don’t have. I’ve read that pears should opt for A line skirts and dresses and dark bootcut jeans..but for my age? It doesn’t sound great for partying.
Try prom-style dresses, especially those with detail around the top, to balance out your top half and give you the illusion of an hourglass shape – very 50s glam! These dresses also give you a defined waistline, emphasising the effect. You could add a matching belt or wide ribbon if the dress doesn’t come with one. Dresses with halter-necks elongate your upper half, making you look a little taller and again highlighting your top half. Many prom dresses come with netting underneath the skirt too, which highlight a slim waist – if not, you can buy petticoats to go underneath (sounds old-fashioned but it works!). General rule of thumb – lots of things going on on your top half! Finally, prom dresses all tend to be just above the knee in length, which is perfect if you don’t have toothpick legs. Accessorize with darker and more modern accessories like chunky necklaces or a big black corsage for a contemporary and less cutesy look, a la Lily Allen.
