Should endurance be part of a martial arts class or up to the individual?
Basically in my classes the only time i’d be proper out of breath & sweating loads is if we were doing pad work or light sparring.
However its quite easy to get ”gassed” during a fight by not controlling yourself & being unfit.
Should self defence classes (or TMAs in that sense)be improving an individuals stamina & endurance or is that up to the individual to do so outside of class time?
Well I could see it both ways. You are correct that stamina plays huge factor in matches and it should be a concern. Ideally you would want to be able to spend your class time going over technique and form. The dilemma with this is that most people are not disciplined enough to train the cardio on their own.
I think if i was teaching, I would include endurance training to ensure the students could perform well.
