Natural Leather
Natural homemade Leather cleaner?

does anyone know what I could use to clean leather (the shiny soft type, not patent leather) I need somthing that is natural, wont harm the leather and I would most likely have in my home. I bought a leather foot stool at a grage sale and I know it is worth money but it needs cleaning badly and I dont want to use anything harsh and I think you are supposed to use some sort of oil but I don’t really know, Thanks for any help.

get some saddle soap from a feed or pet/tack store. it comes in a large shoe polish type can and you just make a sudsy lather with a sponge and water and then wipe it on the item and wipe off with a soft rag. it seems natural and non- toxic. only 3-4 $ a can. DO NOT put neatsfoot oil on your piece unless you want it to get really really dark colored as it will stay that way forever if you do. A product, found at tack stores, will darken very little and add suppleness is “lexol” for saddles etc. about 6$ for a pint. also other leather cleaners available at a feed/tack store, like spray saddle soap.
