Junior Mitts
Need help this is an emergency?

i dont get this stuff.

the junior high school has thirty eight more boys than girls. there are 1212 students in the junior high school. how many boys are there?

my answer: 38+X=1212 X=1174
wtf

roger spent $22 on a baseball mitt and softball. if the mitt cost $2 less than 5 times the cost of the softball, find the cost of each?

BREAK IT DOWN AND MAKE IT EASY BRO.
First off, 38+X=1212 X=1174 is wrong, ’cause you forgot to represent the girls.
Let x = number of girls, so the number of boys would be x + 38

(x) + (x+38) = 1212
(subtract 38 from both sides)
2x = 1174
(divide by both sides by 2)
x (the number of girls) = 587
So the number of boys is 587 + 38 = 625

Next question;
Let ‘s’ represent the softball and let ‘m’ represent the mitt.
22= s+m (Softball + mitt = $22)
m = 5s – 2 (the mitt’s cost = 5 x the softball’s cost – $2)
22 = 6s – 2 (The price of 6 softballs minus $2 =$22)
24 = 6s (add 2 to both sides of the equation)
4 = s (Divide both sides by 6, the softball’s cost is $4)

So, the softball is $4 and the mitt is $18

Did that help? ;)
