how does a gum-shield help people who snore?
This device is simply a molded silicone mouthpiece that forms to the top and bottom teeth. The bottom portion is aligned such that it forces the jaw to be pulled slightly forward. In CPR training this would be called a jaw thrust. This maneuver helps to create a larger passage for the airway by pulling the tongue and associated soft tissues away from the back of the throat and keeping them from blocking the airway.
You can get an inexpensive one for $30 on the internet or pay ten times as much at the dentist for a custom molded ceramic set.
Do they work? I would guess like most of these types of devices its a mixed review. For some it works, some can’t tolerate it and others it just doesn’t work. The only way to know would be to try it.
