What to wear for a Nancy Spungen costume?
I don’t want to wear heels, so I was going to wear black, leather lace-up boots. Then probably fishnets. And possibly a black leather skirt, but I’m not sure yet. Maybe I’ll wear a printed skirt, with a studded belt? And a small fitting leather jacket. I’ll curl my hair… Dark eye makeup, and then black nails and gloves.
What else could I do? Those are pretty much just basics, so..?
I had to do this costume on the fly for The Rocky Horror Picture Show (because we had a special cast of “Dead Celebrities”)
What I wore:
14 hole red Doc’s
Liquid leggings (looks like leather pants when they’re on)
Ripped/cut white t-shirt w/ Union Jack spray painted on it
Black leopard print pleatherized jacket (Tripp NYC makes it)
black gloves w/ skeleton print w/ fingers cut off
Studded belt
Studded bracelette cuff

The Hair was pretty intense b/c she had short curly hair & i have long hair. A good trick is to tease it a lot before you put the curlers in it. There is a product called Got2B Glued Spiking freeze spray (http://mp.hairboutique.com/_images/products/got2b_glued_spiking_freeze_spray_350w.jpg) and it’s AMAZING for getting BIG hair.
For the shirt (cause I couldn’t track down a Sex Pistols shirt):
You’ll need: a white v-neck, a hanger, masking tape, long piece of cardboard (one box flattened), a utility knife, scissors, 1/2 sheet of poster board, blue spray paint, red spray paint, black spray paint (optional), alphabet stencils (optional). All this stuff you can get at Wal Mart.
Tape the cardboard to the hanger so you have a flat surface to spray paint while it’s hanging. Make a Union Jack stencil that’ll fit the entire front of the shirt. (If you’re not familiar w/ making stencils, you want to cut where the blue & red are, use the utility knife for that) Hang the shirt on the hanger in an open area making sure the cardboard is in the middle so the paint won’t leak through ( I opened my garage door and hung it from the lip of that), tape the stencil to the shirt (remember you’re going for edge, not perfection) and spray the red first, then the blue. if you want, using the alphabet stencils spray out “sex pistols” on the shirt about 10 minutes after you’ve sprayed the Union Jack (this prevents too much bleeding w/ the paint). once it’s dried, cut the sleeves how you’d like & cut the v-neck out (you can even do a deeper v, if you’d like)
for added effect, cut a horizontal hole near your stomach & put fake blood on it.
With the make up, lots of texturizing. kinda like you didn’t wash the make up off from the night before, and added more.
Another added affect is track marks on your arms. take a smallish brush and mix blue/black/purple (bruising) and put a few dots on your arm near the inside of your elbow. on top of those, take a red lip pencil and draw a dot on top of that.
