Will the parachute ever evolve into a cordless suit with wings and land on safely?
I’ve seen parachuters use a suit with wing like mesh extending from their wrists to their ankles and anothe one between the leggs and even web like gloves, to prolong the time of free fall.
But can this eventuall evolve to the point where the parachute isn’t needed and you can land safely.
Is this allready being tested over water so that the jumper isn’t crushed on landing?
Or can the parachute have a mechanism where the strings are reeled in and released to a certain length desired?
Just wondering.
Go Fast Sports has been doing some research into this. Landing a wing suit without a parachute. It is going to be a very, very dangerous idea. I’m a skydiver and I’m not willing to jump a wing suit at all right now. Go Fast Sports did sponsor a test to land the smallest parachute. The VX-39, a 39 square foot parachute was successfully and safely landed. Just for comparison, a professional canopy pilot flies a 89 to 107 square foot parachute. I personally fly a 210 square foot parachute and will not try to fly anything small for at least one more year. The only way I can think that a person could land a wing suit without a parachute is to match their fall rate and angel to a snow covered slope. However, this will still be very difficult. top wing suit pilots have a vertical fall rate of 55mph at the slowest and a average wing suit pilots will get a vertical fall rate of 68 mph.
Never say never, the jumpers from the 60′s would never have been able to think of the types of parachutes and safety equipment we have today.
