What is the difference between a euro bottom bracket and mid etc.?
I need to buy a new crank set for my bmx and I am going to buy a complete set(includes bottom bracket). Does the different names mean different sizes or what???Thanks
Size is one aspect of it. American BB’s are the largest type, followed by Mid, Euro, and Spanish.
American and Euro BB’s both use a metal cup that is pressed into the frame to hold the bearings. American BB’s use two bearings that are larger and heavier than the Euro’s which use four smaller bearings to bear the load.
Mid and Spanish BB’s dont use a cup to hold the bearings, rather they are just pressed into the frame and give it a cleaner appearance. The only real difference between the two other than size is that the bearings in a Mid BB are slightly larger and sturdier than their spanish counterparts.
If you aren’t sure what type of BB you have, it would be best to figure out what you have before buying a new crankset that doesn’t fit. BB’s are NOT interchangeable.
