The UFC’s concept is similar and was probably inspired by the vale tudo tournaments which take place in Brazil. The UFC and mixed martial arts as a sport are rooted in Olympic games in as far as 648 BC. The combat sport is called Pankration.
The UFC’s first ever competition was in 1993, and it was held in Denver, Colorado. The game was a hit as it showcased different fighters from all over the world, coming from various disciplines that include boxing, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Karate and other styles of martial arts. What the UFC wanted was to seek the most effective martial art out there in a real fight. On a certain phase since its inception, UFC suffered some kind of political backlash. This was resolved when the company enforced stricter rules and was effectively able to get the sanctioning of the State Athletic Commission.
The UFC is a huge favorite of many people. Fighters in the UFC have become icons, including famous fighter Royce Gracie, who used Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to defeat a lot of other fighters who are bigger in size and having more strength.
