Boxing Bags
Is there any technique to hitting a boxing bag?

I just got a 100 lb 6 ft. tall boxing bag and I’m trying to get a little bit better at martial arts is there any technique to hitting it? I can’t afford classes right now so I have this until I can. thanks.

Here is the trick for a knock-out punch (pun intended)

Here’s something I learned from my combat training: Punch through your opponent, never punch at your opponent.

The idea is not to punch with your arm, but your whole body. Step into the bag. As soon as your fist comes into contact with the bag, your foot should be nearly at the floor, and your arm should be around a 45 degree angle. While your foot is hitting the ground, be sure to drive the top half of your body into the bag (causing momentum) as your extending your arm. Just remember to never fully extend your arm. This is how injuries happen. Never let your guard down, and practice it slowly at first. Speed doesn’t matter when you begin. While you are in a real fight adrenaline kicks in, and if all you’ve been practicing is speed then your just going to have your arms flailing around doing nothing. A side note: The best punch is one that is delivered around the same level of your solar plexus.

This punch is very hard to master, but about 4-5 seconds into a sparring match I sent someone to the hospital on accident with it.

Always remember though: The more you practice, the better you will be.
