Find A New Rabbit – Pet Care Tips
When you’re thinking of buying a rabbit it can be fun for the whole family. With over 40 different rabbit breeds, there’s certainly many to choose from. Many of the breeds have multiple varieties and colours. Understanding all aspects of rabbit care is important as these are animals that can grow very large in size.
Many breeders give different answers regarding the preferred gender for a pet rabbit. This is compounded by the individual temperament of the rabbit. Often a doe (girl rabbit) that is not spayed, can become territorial was she reaches maturity. In some cases, she may even bite you a little bit if you get too close. Some does will eliminate that aggression when a familiar face does the feeding on a daily basis. Some does can be non-aggressive, and yet others can become territorial towards everybody, but that is very rare. If you still favour the idea of having a doe, but want her purely as a pet, the best thing to do is to get her spayed. This is a good long-term plan for your rabbit care approach.
Something else worth thinking about when working out your rabbit care plans is the grooming side of things. There are some breeds that require more grooming than others and you will find that this is quite a time-consuming process. Naturally, all rabbits need to be groomed, but it is the wool breeds that will require a good brush on a regular basis.
I would not recommend buying a rabbit without first seeing it, nor would I recommend purchasing a rabbit from a pet store. It would be in your best interest to find a breeder in your area of the breed you think you would like. Then you can pay the breeder a visit. Have a look around the rabbit area and note down what the conditions are like. It is also a good idea to see if you can hold a rabbit whilst you are there. This is the point where you can check the rabbit’s reaction to seeing their hutch door being opened. If they are happy rabbits and like the attention, they will come to the door and make cute little noises to get you to stroke them. Other rabbits will immediately go to the back of the cage. If you notice anything strange like this, it might mean that the rabbit isn’t a good choice for a family pet.
So, taking all aspects of rabbit care into consideration is important, but so too is the enjoyment you get from searching for a rabbit. There are many sizes, colours and choices and finding the right one for you can be time consuming but will be very rewarding in the end.
