What’s the difference between training gloves and heavy bag gloves?
I’ve been wanting to get gloves for heavy bags, but i also saw training gloves, what exactly is the difference?
In short- buy one of each. The descriptions online or help of people in the store should be your guide.
One opinion is, bag gloves are just material to keep your knuckles from getting scratched up- you wrap your hands first to absorb shock. Wearing padded gloves to hit the bag can possibly make your arm absorb the shock instead, which just switches to pressure from your knuckles to your elbow or shoulder. Training (boxing) gloves are used with a partner (or a lighter bag).
However, if you’re planning to hit the bag very hard, you’re going to find you’ll want the padding anyway.. even with the above arguments, protecting your fists should be your priority. I’ve always trained with my boxing gloves with a partner, and with the bag, and it has worked fine for me… but I’m replacing my training gloves and getting some bag gloves soon.
MMA training gloves are like the ones fighters wear in the cage and those are only for grappling or ground and pound.
There are also some hybrid gloves, what those are good for varies by the pair.
At any rate, always try to wrap your hands. The right way. Also, get leather gloves, not vinyl.
