Arts Hook
Improving vertical jump height for martial arts?

I am a 15 year old female with no injury history. I am
a martial artist in mainly Taekwondo but I have
dabbled in other martial arts. I am currently in Korea
for Taekwondo training.
I have been training in Taekwondo since I was born
practically (my family owns a couple tkd schools).
I have been training in Korea for a month now and have started working on the 540 under the supervision of two members of K Tigers. I am currently 130 lb and 5’5″

My goal is to do a 540 spinning hook. So I need to
increase my vertical jump drastically and my speed
also. The speed needs to come from the feet as well as
the hips.

I also want to ask about the efficiency of weights.
(ankle weights etc.) Do wearing them while climbing
stairs and regular routine help?

An effective way to increase jump capability is to use a technique the Russians pioneered called “Plyometrics” which uses leaping. bounding and throwing exercises to build up explosive power. There is a Time-Life book called “Super Firm – tough workouts” with plyometrics in chapter 3. good Luck! Aneyong Haseyo!
